The aim of this case study is to show what needs to be in place for success in an organization.
Success requires getting some of the fundamentals right. Structures, Standards, Measurement and, of course, strong leadership are all significant parts of what makes for success, and in this case study we choose Greenwood Dale School as an example of how this works.
Greenwood Dale School is a highly successful school in what is considered a challenging environment and circumstances. This school understands the value of clearly defined structures and standards, which are carefully measured. It also works because there is clear leadership and management from the top.
The Importance of Clearly Defined Standards
Standards create the basis for a successful relationship. Notice how people respond to standards and respect them. They are clear and open. The commitment comes from the top and the example is set at the top.
Measurement and Collecting Data
Measurement and data allows them to improve and apply support where needed. Notice people like to know how they are doing. Measurement also comes with support and is owned by the staff and the pupils. Targets are set and reviewed to check progress. People are involved in setting targets and measurements are seen as positive.
Attention to Detail
Giving attention to the detail shows the importance and commitment. Notice that if attention is given to the little things, then the bigger things are less of a problem. They make sure what they say they are going to do, they get done.
Management and Leadership
Management and Leadership are the driving force and influence to the school. Notice that Managers and Leaders are an example of what they expect in others. They are visible and approachable. They are constantly evaluating, learning and improving what they are doing.
In all cases, these principles apply to the teachers and the pupils. Most organizations are only dealing with staff and yet here are Greenwood Dale School, they achieve it at both levels
